2024: A Year of Transition and Change

By Emily Nguyen

This blog is estimated to take 2 minutes to read.

As we near the end of 2024 and I reflect back on this year with the foundation I am reminded that this was a year of transition and change and within that moments of joy and celebration.

For our team, 2024 started after the news of Katie’s transition, as I stepped officially into my new role (thank you all for your support during this time!). We also welcomed Rose to the team in the spring. With major change always comes some growing pains, and while our team felt them at times, working through them has made us stronger. We had moments of great celebration at our Groovy Grantee Gathering and were honored to receive the Grantmaker of the Year Award through the Grant Professionals Association.

With change can also come uncertainty, something I know so many of you may be feeling right now. In times of uncertainty, I look to my own values as a guide and north star. At the foundation, our commitment to creating a more equitable community through our values of transparency, integrity, compassion, dedication, and innovation will continue to be our anchor.

As we look to 2025, our foundation is committed to doubling down on creating equity within our community. The team is working on new programs and offerings in 2025 for our partners that provide space and time for growth in inclusivity and self-care while continuing to support programs that provide information and training on fundraising, advocacy, and, of course, the many courses Metropolitan Community College provides. Our team also spent time this week reflecting on how we better celebrate the incredible work happening and how we share those successes within our team and out into the community.

Additionally, the foundation team is committed to getting more input on how we can be better partners in our work. If you are a grantee of ours, stay tuned for more information in early 2025 about how you can share feedback with us through the Center for Effective Philanthropy. We are excited to get your feedback and are committed to making real changes based on what we learn.

Thank you for being partners in this work. Our commitment to our mission and  the community remains as strong as ever.
